Straight-edge

Oh my gosh, you won’t believe all the awesome stuff about this album! First of all, it was recorded at Rumbo Recorders in Canoga Park, CA, and produced by Andy Wallace. It took five whole weeks to record, but it was totally worth it. Jay, one of the band members, said that choosing the songs for the album was a crazy process. They fought and argued, and even had to vote on which songs to include. It was intense!

There’s this really cool story about how they decided which songs to put on the album. Jay wanted to include a song called “News From The Front,” but Brett, another band member, wanted to include “Digital Boy.” Jay couldn’t argue with Brett because he wrote both songs! So they went with “News From The Front” in the end.

When it came to recording the bass tracks, Jay used some fancy gear – a Hiwatt SA212 combo and an Electro-Voice EVM12L speaker mounted in a KK Audio closed back cabinet. He used the same setup for all the albums from “Suffer” to “No Substance,” except for “Against The Grain.” And guess what? He used the same gear again in 2010 for “The Dissent Of Man.”

Now let’s talk about the B-sides. There were four B-sides for the album, including “News From The Front,” “Markovian Process,” “Mediocrity,” and “Leaders And Followers.”

And get this, there were demos for both Brett’s and Greg’s songs. Brett’s demos included “Hooray For Me,” “Infected,” and “Marked.” Greg’s demos included “Leave Mine To Me,” “Fucked Up Children” (which was unreleased), “The Handshake,” “Slumber,” “Fanatics” (also unreleased), and “The Truth” (also unreleased).

Now let’s talk about the singles and the release. There were three singles released from the album: “Stranger Than Fiction,” “21st Century (Digital Boy),” and “Infected.” Brett, the songwriter, thought “Infected” should have been the first single, but it wasn’t. Atlantic Records actually regrets not picking “Infected” as the first single.

The album was released on August 30th, 1994 on CD, cassette, and vinyl through Atlantic Records. This was the first time
