Oh my gosh, you won’t believe all the cool stuff I found out about the song “Infected”! So, it was actually the third single off of Bad Religion’s album Stranger Than Fiction. But get this, there are four different versions of the CD! There’s the Infected Live EP, Infected, Infected 1, and Infected 2. How awesome is that?

Okay, so here’s a funny story. When they were deciding which song should be the single, Danny Goldberg from Atlantic Records wanted to go with one song, but KROQ, a radio station in Los Angeles, kept playing “Infected” and they loved it. Danny was like, “No way, we’re picking what we like!” But looking back, he wishes he had listened to KROQ. Haha, oops!

Now, let’s talk about the music video. They originally wanted Don Knotts (you know, the deputy from the Andy Griffith show) to be in it, but he wasn’t interested. So they called up Erik Estrada from CHiPs and he was totally cool about it. They didn’t really know what the concept of the video was, but they got to crash cars in the desert, which sounds like a blast!

Oh, and get this, Brett explained that the song is actually about an abusive obsessive relationship between a man and a woman. The line “I want to drill you like an ocean” is a metaphor for violating an unspoiled woman. It’s one of Brett’s favorite metaphors from a song because it’s so simple and to the point. But during a live performance, Greg changed the lyrics because he thought they didn’t make sense. Haha, gotta love those live moments!

And here’s a fun fact, at the end of the original recording, it’s actually Brett singing the background vocals. And on the live version of another song, Graffin references a different song by saying “George Davis”. So random, but cool!

Oh, and one more thing. Sometimes KABC-TV uses the intro of “Infected” for commercials during Dodgers games. How cool is that?

Man, I love finding out all these little tidbits about songs. It just makes me appreciate them even more!
