Oh my gosh, you won’t believe it! Bad Religion has been featured in several issues of this awesome magazine called Flipside. They even put out a video of Bad Religion and The Circle Jerks, how cool is that? They were even on the cover of issue 67 in July/August 1990, but get this, the magazine only had four pages of photos and no text. Bummer, right? But don’t worry, in issue number 59 in Spring 89, they had a four-page interview with photos, and in issue 88 in February/March 1994, they had a two-page interview with two photos.
And guess what? They released an album called The Big One, which is a compilation of LA and San Francisco bands. It’s so rad! There are even some bonus cuts on the CD from this out of print compilation called City of L.A. Power, which features other awesome bands like Mototcycle Boy, Sandy Duncan’s Eye, L7, Spiderbaby, Anus The Menace, Trash Can School, and the Creamers. The Bad Religion track on there is called Operation Rescue, and it’s epic.
Oh, and if you get the LP version of The Big One, it comes with a 16-page lyric/photo booklet. And get this, you can actually get an extra booklet for just $1.00 if you order the CS or CD. How awesome is that deal? If you want to get in touch with Flipside, you can email them at flipside@ix.netcom.com.
And get this, in the 1988 poll, the readers of the magazine voted Bad Religion as the best band of the year and their album Suffer as the best album. They even got the third best album cover of 1988 for Suffer. But you know what’s funny? Brian Baker, the guitarist of Bad Religion, was voted as the second biggest asshole of the year (only surpassed by GG Allin), but he was also voted as the second best guitarist. Talk about mixed opinions!
Oh, and did I mention that Flipside magazine also features letters sent in by readers? In issue 32 in July 1982, there was this guy named Josh who wrote in and he had some strong opinions. He called out bands like Bad Religion and Wasted Youth, saying they’re hypocrites because they complain about society and authority, but they actually rely on their
