Guess what? One of Brian Baker’s super successful bands is Dag Nasty! And get this, Brett is rocking their shirt on the sleeve of the “Along the Way” DVD. How cool is that? Dag Nasty was formed back in 1985 in Washington D.C. by Brian Baker, Shawn Brown, Colin Sears, and Roger Marbury. They started off strong, recording demos and playing shows. But then, Shawn Brown left and Dave Smalley took his place. That’s when Brian Baker’s vision for the band really came to life. They released their first album, Can I Say, in 1986. With Dave on vocals, they played 8 shows together before he decided to go to school. Can you believe it? Right before a summer tour with the descendents! But don’t worry, Dag Nasty found another awesome vocalist, Peter Cortner, and released Wig Out at Denko’s in 1987. They kept on touring and rocking the stage for the next couple of years, even with some lineup changes. Roger Marbury left in March ’87 and Colin Sears had to leave in May because of a cyst on his arm. But no worries, Doug Carrion and Temporary drummer London May stepped in to keep the beat going. And guess what? They even moved from Ian MacKaye’s Dischord to Giant Records and released Field Day. Talk about a big move! They toured like crazy and eventually went their separate ways. But wait, there’s more! The Can I Say lineup (Baker, Sears, Smalley, and Marbury) reunited in 1992 to release Four On the Floor. This record was all about the underground punk scene, even though they would later break into the mainstream on the same label, Epitaph. But here’s the kicker, they decided not to tour for this album and went their separate ways again. However, they did come together one more time in 2002 to release Minority of One. And get this, there’s even talk about another record or a reunion show with Peter, but nothing official yet. Oh, and rumor has it that Baker and Dave got together in the studio to record some acoustic versions of old Dag songs. How awesome is that? So there you have it, the exciting journey of Dag Nasty, written by Uncle Chapstick.
