According to Jay, there are less than 10 unreleased songs, mostly from 1980, and they are very early and rough. One of these songs is called “Everything Turned Sour” and it was shelved early on. Another song was played live at The Galaxy Theater in Fullerton, CA on October 31, 1982, but its name remains unknown and is often referred to as “Greg’s new song”. “Hellion” is a song by Brett from 1982 that was intended for their second album, but Greg decided to write non-punk songs and it was abandoned and never recorded. For Generator, Greg Graffin demoed a song called “Inner Dream” but it was never recorded with the whole band. Greg also wrote and demoed two songs for Recipe For Hate that were not picked up: “Hole In The Ship” and “Wasting Oxygen”. Three additional songs were demoed by Greg Graffin for Stranger Than Fiction: “Fucked Up Children”, “Fanatics”, and “The Truth”. “Strange Denial” was also an unreleased song written and demoed by Greg Graffin in 1994/1995 for The Gray Race, but it ended up on the No Substance album after some changes were made to the chorus. Greg also recorded a demo for The New America called “California” that wasn’t recorded with the whole band. One of the songs from the New Maps Of Hell sessions that was never released is “New Chapter”. Jay mentioned that “New Chapter” will probably not be released due to insurmountable issues. Jay also mentioned that Greg Graffin may have plenty of songs that he hasn’t shown the band, but the majority of the songs mentioned before were never recorded at all. There is a widespread rumor that Bad Religion recorded 23 songs for The Gray Race but only 15 made it to the CD. However, Jay has denied this rumor on many occasions.
