Oh my gosh, you won’t believe what happened! The Sex Pistols actually asked Bad Religion to tour with them on their Filthy Lucre tour! Can you imagine? But guess what? Greg wasn’t really into it. He wasn’t excited about touring with those kinds of bands. But they ended up playing a few shows together anyway. The first show was in Finland and guess what? The audience liked Bad Religion and the Leningrad Cowboys better than the Pistols! Haha, take that!
And then, in Brazil, Greg said something hilarious on stage. He used to think that if Johnny Rotten can sing, he can sing too. But now he knows that Rotten can’t sing and he can. Burn! Greg was so mad because the Pistols were acting all high and mighty, treating everyone else like crap. It made him so angry!
But then something crazy happened. After the show in Finland, the guards put up boards on Bad Religion’s tour bus windows so they couldn’t see the Pistols coming off stage. Can you believe that? Bobby filmed it and Greg was like, “That’s it, I’m done with this tour.” He thought it was pathetic that they would allow something like that to happen.
The next day, Greg tried to be open-minded about the whole thing, but he was turned off by how the Pistols were being treated like rock stars. It just didn’t sit right with him. Jay thought they were kind of jerks too, until the last few shows when Jonsey was cool. They hung out for a bit, but Jay didn’t really think much of it. He was only excited for like a split second.
And let’s talk about the Pistols’ performance. Jay watched it and gave it a rating from 1 to 10. It started off pretty bad, like a 1 or 2, but towards the end, it got up to a 4. They got it together, I guess. I mean, it was their first show in like 20 years, so we’ll cut them some slack.
But here’s the thing, Greg used to like the Pistols when he was a kid because they sang with heart. But now, he thinks they’re just like a puppet show, straying away from their original sentiments. He’s not a fan of their negative cynicism.
In 1997, Greg clarified that he never hated the Pistols
