Get ready to rock out with the original 12″ compilation from Smoke 7 Records! This vinyl masterpiece was released on December 10, 1981 and features Circle One, RF7, Redd Kross, and Disability. But that’s not all – it also includes different versions of Bad Religion’s hits from their first EP, as they contributed these songs during the EP’s creation. We found this awesome ad in a magazine or newspaper from January 15-21, 1982.
But wait, there’s more! In 2003, this incredible compilation album was rereleased on CD by Puke ‘n Vomit. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, in December 2011, Bad Religion’s songs from the 1981 Public Service compilation were rereleased on 7″ black vinyl by Smoke 7/Puke ‘n Vomit. They even threw in some cool merch like t-shirts, hoodies, patches, buttons, and stickers. However, there were a few noticeable mistakes, like the mirrored crossbuster logo and the wrong Bad Religion font on the sleeve. The lyrics for “Drastic Actions” were actually Bad Religion’s, and the lyrics for “Slaves” were completely wrong (probably copied from a lyrics website). Despite these blunders, the release was said to be limited to 500 copies.
But hold on, controversy ensued when The Bad Religion Page reported on this rerelease. Some questioned its legitimacy, and Brett wasn’t too happy about the crappy merch with the backwards crossbuster. He believed that Smoke 7 had no right to sell any merch, and that the contract language only referred to the original Smoke 7 compilation album (although the sale of a 7″ bootleg bothered him more than anything). Thankfully, a clear red vinyl version was released shortly after, with corrected lyrics and the right crossbuster logo.
But the fun didn’t stop there! In December 2012, a new version of the 7″ was unleashed, this time on clear yellow vinyl. The sleeve and vinyl labels were finally perfect, featuring the right crossbuster logo and font. They even included an additional insert – a copy of the original contract with Smoke 7 Records – to prove the legitimacy of this rerelease. Take that, skeptics!
And guess what? In October 2021, another colored version hit the shelves. This time, it’s on black and white vinyl, limited to 100
