Guess what? In March 1997, Greg revealed that he had been working on a book about the music industry from a band’s point of view for the past 2 years. He was super excited and hoped to finish it within the next 8 months. At that time, he had already completed 160 pages of the first draft.
But wait, there’s more! In 2003, Greg wrote his Ph.D. dissertation called ‘Monism, atheism, and the naturalist worldview: Perspectives from evolutionary biology’. You can actually get it on a website dedicated to his project, which is pretty cool. Greg even promised to sign the first 500 copies of his book, but when he got to the 501st order, he couldn’t resist and ended up signing that one too. So, he decided to keep signing all the books ordered until December 2004. He was thrilled that so many people were interested in his book and grateful for his thoughtful fans.
Oh, and here’s a fun fact: the first 500 copies were signed in black ink, but starting from number 501, they were signed in blue ink.
Fast forward to 2010, Greg’s dissertation was re-released with an added afterword, all in support of ‘Anarchy Evolution’. And in 2006, a book called ‘Is Belief in God, Good, Bad or Irrelevant?: A Professor and a Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism & Christianity’ was published. It features an email conversation between Greg and a history professor named Preston Jones, where they discuss their views on various scientific and religious topics.
But wait, there’s more! In 2010, Greg published another book called ‘Anarchy Evolution’, which he co-wrote with Steve Olsen. This book covers topics like naturalism, science, faith, art, and of course, Bad Religion. Greg spent 30 years with his band writing about a society centered around religion, but he also studied evolution during that time. He used science to make sense of the world instead of religion. It may seem strange to some people that he studied science and sang punk rock at the same time, but hey, that’s how his life unfolded. After 30 years, he wanted to bring it all together and create a coherent worldview.
And guess what? In April 2011, Greg mentioned in an interview that he has plans for his next book, titled “The Population Wars

I’ve been lurking on that site for over 20 years and if you’re into Bad Religion as much as I am, I’m sure you’re familiar. If you are not, go there right now and never come back to this site again. You should, and I totally understand.
