Oh my goodness, let me tell you about Guitars Baker’s amazing collection! His main guitar is a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior, and it’s absolutely stunning with its “Sunburst” color and white scratchplate. But get this, it has no original parts! Instead, it’s got Repro Tuners, a Seymour Duncan Custom P90 Dog Ear pickup with a ceramic magnet, and a Glaser bridge. How cool is that?
But wait, there’s more! Baker’s second guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Custom shop R9, and it’s an exclusive from the Chicago Music Exchange. It’s got this awesome “Kindred Burst” color and a Carmelita neck. I can only imagine how incredible it sounds.
And let’s not forget about his third guitar, a black 2002 Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop. This one has a Seymour Duncan custom humbucker, adding some serious power to his collection.
Now, let’s talk about amps. Brian uses Marshall MKII Plexi handwired reissues, and while he’s not exactly sure what year they were made, he thinks they’re from the early 1990s. These amps have the “Dookie” mod, which is a cascading gain mod. He’s got two heads that are the same and he runs them through a LEHLE AB Switcher. Fun fact, one of the heads actually belonged to Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, and Brian borrowed it in 2011-2012 and never gave it back. Oops!
When he’s using the Marshall amps, Brian likes to use a Brown Box power conditioner. It gives him perfect power at slightly higher voltages, which he sets at 122. He learned about this trick from watching the AC/DC “Rig Rundown” video. How clever!
But wait, there’s more! Brian also uses Kemper’s modeling heads, and he actually made a profile of his JCM 800 head from when he played in Junkyard. He learned about these modeling heads from Chris DeMakes, the vocalist/guitarist of Less Than Jake. These modeling heads go directly into the soundboard, making it super convenient.
Now, let’s talk cabinets. Baker uses Mesa Boogie cabinets, and he thinks they have vintage 30’s in them. But here’s the funny part, he’s never actually opened up the back to check them out. Maybe one day he’ll take a peek
