Bad Religion Day

Once upon a time in October 1999, the idea of bringing together Bad Religion fans was born on The BR Mailing List. People had been chatting online for a while and wanted to finally meet face to face. So, Roger Vulture suggested a date and called it Bad Religion Day. They chose November 5 because it was the release date for Against The Grain and also because Greg Graffin’s birthday is on November 6. It’s funny because the October revolution actually happened on November 7. The original announcement for Bad Religion Day said that fans could celebrate in any way they wanted, whether it be through celebration, meditation, or even masturbation. It didn’t matter if you didn’t plan anything big, as long as you were willing to meet other fans in your area. You could go to a pub, discuss lyrics over coffee, have a Hetson-impersonator contest, trade bootlegs and underwear, or even sing Generator while standing on a table with your pants down. If someone else was already planning a get-together in your area, you could contact them directly. In 1999, only 2 parties actually took place in Europe and none in the US. In 2000, there were 70 proposals, but none of the 58 US parties happened. However, 9 events in other countries were successful. The US’s reaction to this was unknown. In the following years, there were only a few announced events, with the Bad Religion Day slowly fading away. However, in 2011, torbar organized a 44-hour streaming of Bad Religion music and interviews. In 2012 and 2013, torbar and FRod87 did a 24-hour live feed with interviews and concerts, raising money for charity. The announcement of the True North album was made on a live Google Hangout on Bad Religion Day in 2012.

I’ve been lurking on that site for over 20 years and if you’re into Bad Religion as much as I am, I’m sure you’re familiar. If you are not, go there right now and never come back to this site again. You should, and I totally understand.
