Now, let’s talk about the meaning behind their song “American Jesus.” Greg believes it’s all about the idea that Jesus treats America differently than other countries. He even mentions how during the Gulf War, George Bush made a bold statement saying, “We’ll win, because God is on our side!” Wow, talk about mind-blowing!

But wait, Brett has something to say too. He thinks “American Jesus” is pretty straightforward. It’s all about how silly it is for people to think that God is on their side in a war or any kind of dispute. And don’t even get him started on nationalism! He thinks it’s just plain dumb to associate any spiritual concept with the idea of nationalism.

Now, let’s move on to the promos. There are two CDs, and one of them is super rare and hard to find. It was released by Semaphore Records from Germany and includes the awesome song “Skyscraper.”

And let’s not forget about the music video! It was shot in 1993 and was the brainchild of the amazing Gore Verbinski. They went all out, shooting it guerilla style with a tiny budget, super 8 film, and no permits for locations. They even had their friends and Epitaph employees as extras, walking around downtown Los Angeles with giant hand-painted styrofoam crosses that they made themselves. And the desert footage? They found a beautiful state park just a couple of hours away called Red Rock Canyon. Talk about dedication!

Oh, and did I mention that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam lent his awesome vocals as backing vocals? These guys are just too cool!

And to top it all off, their song was featured during the Winter X-games on ESPN2 and MTV used the opening of the song for their Extreme Beach Competition show. These guys are making waves everywhere!
